Many of our patients are moms with children. They are interested in achieving an improved body contour and bolstering there self esteem. Skin laxity of the tummy area involves either suction of fat (liposuction) or removal of skin and fat with tightening of the muscle (tummy tuck). Dr. Capizzi can place either silicone gel implants through the tummy tuck incision thus there are no incisions on the breast, chest or in the underarm area. This "Mommy Makeover" has become extremely popular in our practice.
The "Mommy Makeover" traditionally involves the tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast enhancement. This is done as an outpatient most often. Dr. Capizzi encourages immediate activity, without restrictions to the activity of daily living. Women can be using the elliptical trainer, doing yoga, or gentle active motion within the first week. Some years we average at least one of these procedures per week.
Some of the newer developments involve the use of the Accufuser or On-Q pump for local anesthetic. This is used for the first 36 hours typically. We have used them for over 8 years and have had very good success with control of discomfort and the ability to increase activity within 24 hours. With the Mommy Makeover, we suggest that a week off be taken from work and strenuous activity.
Additionally, Dr.Capizzi, has written a suggested nutritional guideline for all his body contouring patients. This was done in consultation with a Licensed Nutritionist. This Recover Well program hopes to ensure good nutrition during the healing period.
