Stillwater Plastic Surgery, P.A. is the practice of Dr. Peter Capizzi is the first practice in North Carolina to offer their patients through the FDA study the option of the form stable gel breast implant. Dr. Capizzi is dedicated to providing the latest advancements in breast surgery available.

Gummy Bear Implants are the most cohesive of gel implants available in the United States today; however, it is important to note that not all cohesive gel implants are gummy bears.

Gummy bear implants come in over 100 different shapes and sizes and provide the ability to match a breast more effectively in aid in improving asymmetry. Because there are many sizes and shapes it is important that prospective women interested in breast implants locate a board certified plastic surgeon that is experienced in placing these implants.

Technique is extremely important. These breast implants not only have more choices for the woman, but they are shaped more like the natural breast. These "shaped" implants require precise placement and preoperative planning is extremely important. Dr. Capizzi measures the width, the height, the skin envelope over each breast, notes the quality of the overlying tissue, and takes a history directed toward the changes of the breast that have occurred over the life of a woman. The gummy bear implants must be placed in position correctly to give the optimum appearance.

The approach most common for the gummy bear placement is the breast crease incision (inframammary). The gummy bear cannot be placed through the underarm (transaxillary) and belly button (TUBA) incisions. The nipple areola approach is possible, but depends on the size of the areola. The gummy bear gel implants require a longer incision than saline and silicone breast implants. Once the approach is decided, the pocket at the time of surgery must fit like a "hand in glove" to the implant. This snug fit will keep the implant in place over time. This snug fit or precise pocket size is very different than most surgeons' that have placed the round gel implants only.

The procedure is done under a sedation type of anesthesia or asleep (general). Typically the breast implant procedure can take 45 to 90 minutes depending whether a breast lift or capsule work from a previous implant is needed. Most women take ibuprofen and low dose narcotic. No special exercises or wraps are needed. Sometimes a surgical bra is used, but this is individualized.

Dr. Capizzi's experience with over 100 of these gummy bear implants has been very rewarding.

"In my experience, the candidates for this implant have got the best implant available and potentially the best result I have to offer."
